Comfort of an Air Bed

How we get Comfortable Air Beds

You are likely to discover that an air bed will provide you with a more restful sleep than a conventional mattress. Being able to control the firmness of a mattress can help ease aches and pains, thus providing you with a comfortable and good night's sleep. The reason is that your body’s weight can be evenly distributed across the mattress. In this manner, the air actually acts like a fluid, similar to that of a water bed. When your body weight can be more evenly distributed pressure is relieved. Therefore, if you suffer from arthritis or other such ailments, you will be able to sleep much more comfortably. In addition, the blood and oxygen can flow better and improve your circulation, thus you will not be tossing and turning all night.

The chambers of the air bed are strong and durable, unlike vinyl tubing that is used in blow-up type mattresses. Also, covers for air beds can be used that will allow you to stay cooler during sleep.

With an air mattress bed, you can actually get the feeling that you are sleeping on air. This concept of sleeping on air originated for hospital use. When patients were bed-ridden, an air mattress would provide the patients with a more comfortable sleep, and they would also experience fewer bed sores. The air mattress soon found its way into the homes of many people.

Since the air baffles or chambers contained in the air mattress are the main elements of support, the sleeper can adjust his or her side of the bed to the level of support that is most comfortable for him or her.

The air bed mattress must have good support. In order to guarantee that the mattress maintain its shape, foam rail surround the air chambers inside the mattress cover. These foam rails will maintain the square-ness of the bed corners and keep the sides straight.

The support of the air mattress should come from the air chambers and baffles which are filled with air. The air should be distributed throughout the air chambers. Horizontal dual air chambers are best because they will prevent a hammock or tenting effect in your mattress. Vertical chambers may cause a hammock effect and a mattress that is too firm may cause a tenting effect.

The air mattress should come with a pump in order to get the air in and out of the air chambers. You should be able to control the pump so that you can supply the amount of air that will be most comfortable for you. There should also be two hand controls so that each side of the bed can be adjusted.

If your air mattress contains an extra layer of base foam, it will provide you with even better support due to its shock absorbing qualities. A top layer of memory foam on the air chambers will "put the icing on the cake" to ensure you of a comfortable night's sleep.
