About Air Beds in Hospitals
Learning
about Hospital Air Beds
A form of the
air bed actually originated in hospitals. It was determined that
sleeping on air would relieve pressure sores for patients who were bed
ridden for long periods of time. By sleeping on air, these patients
would also be able to rest more comfortably and be provided with better
support than if they were to lie on a regular coil spring hospital bed.
Once these beds were used regularly in hospitals, people began to
purchase them for home use due to their comfort.
People could be enjoying the comfort of an air bed at home after they
are released from the hospital. These air beds will assist the patient
while they further recuperate at home. But, of course, once these people
recover from their illnesses or injuries, they would certain not want to
give up their newly discovered comfort of an air bed.
The comfort of the air beds is due to the smooth and equal support
obtained from the air baffles or air chambers contained in the air
mattress beds. Thus, pain and pressure, stress and strain are alleviated
because of the air, as opposed to traditional coil spring mattresses.
Hospital air beds also have the capability of being adjusted up or down
(head or feet) so that the bed will conform to the proper position for
the patient. Thus, the adjustable air bed can provide the most
comfortable sleep position for patients who have various medical
conditions. It can also promote proper circulation, which is especially
important for patients who are confined to their beds.
The hospital air beds are equipped with a remote control to enable the
bed to be adjusted with the touch of a button. Many of these remote
controls are also lighted and some even contain a special massage unit
that is equipped with an automatic time.
